project: The Pinnacle of the Medieval Welsh Bardic Tradition? The Poetry of Guto'r Glyn.

From the fifteenth century to the present day, Guto'r Glyn (c.1435/c.1493) has been acknowledged as the greatest exponent of the Welsh praise-poetry tradition, a cultural succession which stretches back to the sixth century. We aim to reconstruct, as far as is possible, the original text of the poems of Guto'r Glyn based on the manuscripts now available: 6,500 lines of verse, in c.160 poems, preserved in c.2300 manuscript copies. Elizabeth, countess of Shrewsbury (c.1522-1608), known as ‘Bess of Hardwick’, is one of Elizabethan England most famous figures. She is renowned for her reputation as an indomitable matriarch and dynast and perhaps best known as the builder of great stately homes like the magnificent Hardwick Hall and Chatsworth House. The story of her life as told to date takes little account of her more than 230 letters. project: An anthropological investigation of bird sound

This project investigates the role of sound in the human perception of the non-human environment, focusing on human responses to the sounds of birds. Contrary to the view, commonly advanced in writings on human sensory perception, that vision and hearing are radically distinguished along the lines of a contrast between objective observation and subjective participation, we suggest that seeing is as much an experience of light as much as hearing is an experience of sound. Edinburgh: City of Print is a joint AHRC and Museum Galleries Scotland funded partnership project between the Scottish Archive of Print and Publishing History Records (SAPPHIRE) and City of Edinburgh Museums. The project aims to highlight Edinburgh’s rich printing and publishing heritage through the online provision of photographs, film and sound recordings relating to the collections of City of Edinburgh Museums.

An investigation of the cultural expressions of, and responses to, the history of the black diaspora within the Lusophone Atlantic triangle; that is, the transnational movements of people and traditions, the dialogues and exchanges that have occurred between the societies of Portugal, Africa and Brazil from the beginning of the slave trade until the present day. project: CESAR a comprehensive online repository of French Theatre resources in the 17th and 18th centuries

The primary aim was to produce a single, coherent listing of all known theatre and related performances in France between 1600 and 1800, searchable by date, title, location, genre and by the names of the people involved in whatever capacity. The database was to have an interactive web interface. The second aim was to make the entire structure bi-directional, i.e. to take advantage of the same web interface to permit members of the international scholarly community, after a simple registration procedure, to annotate, comment upon, extend and correct any field in the database. project: Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi (Phase II: Enhancing Stained Glass Studies)

The Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi (CVMA) is an international survey of stained glass. CVMA in Great Britain has so far published one hundred printed volumes to date in addition to the online publications which include a substantial image archive; a prototype digital publication of the stained glass in Norfolk; and an online magazine called 'Vidimus' (available at http://vidimus.org).
Phase I of the CVMA digital publication project provided access to a digital Picture Archive, containing nearly 18,000 images of medieval stained glass. [read more]
project: Centre for the History and Analysis of Recorded Music

Aims to promote the study of music as performance through a specific focus on recordings. Its activities include a major discographic project, seminars and research projects.
Traditionally, music has been studied as a text reproduced in performance - almost as if it were an obscure kind of literature. By placing performance at the centre of musicology - by promoting a musicology based on recordings and not just scores - CHARM aims to reduce the gulf between musicology and the listener. [read more]

Scriptorium: Medieval and Early Modern Manuscripts Online is a three-year (2006-2009) AHRC-funded Resource Enhancement Project, based in the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge.
We are constructing a digital archive of manuscript miscellanies and commonplace books from the period c. 1450-1720; our website will provide unrestricted public access to these images. [read more]
