The Great Britain Historical Geographical Information System is a unique digital collection of information about Britain's localities as they have changed over time. Information comes from census reports, historical gazetteers, travellers' tales and historic maps, assembled into a whole that is much more than the sum of its parts. [read more]

ERDAS Imagine is a suite of geospatial authoring software. The suite contains a raster graphics editor and remote sensing application that performs advanced remote sensing analysis and spatial modelling to create new information. ERDAS IMAGINE can also visualize results in 2D, 3D, movies, and on cartographic quality map compositions.

A&H use case 1 description: 
The North Sea Palaeolandscapes project used ERDAS Imagine to analyse 3D seismic datasets acquired on the United Kingdom continental shelf and explore Late Quaternary and Holocene geology over the area of the Southern North Sea.

project: North Sea Palaeolandscapes

North Sea Palaeolandscapes is a remarkable project utilizing 3D seismic data to generate models which will be of enormous value to the geological and archaeological community (as well as to the aggregate extraction industry). The University of Birmingham is the lead organisation and other contributing organizations include the University of Southampton, BGS (British Geological Survey), Petroleum Geo-Services, English Heritage, BMAPA (British Marine Aggregate Producers Association), Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund, TNO (Netherlands Institute of Applied Geoscience) and Tigress. project: Troodos Archaeological and Environmental Survey Project

The Troodos Archaeological and Environmental Survey Project is investigating human activity across the landscape during all time periods, using intensive archaeological and geomorphological survey. TAESP is working in a broad area of the north-central Troodos mountains that includes fertile valleys and plains, copper-bearing foothills, and the northern part of the Troodos Range itself. Other than some rescue excavation of tombs, no systematic archaeological work had been done in this area, and none at all in the mountains. [read more]
