The Goettingen State and University Library (SUB) is one of the leading academic libraries in Germany. It actively contributes to research and development in all areas pertaining to digital libraries, information management, and virtual research environments.

Its activities in establishing digital infrastructure particularly focus on infrastructure for the humanities, as well as national infrastructure in the framework of the D-Grid programme. The WissGrid project (grid for the sciences, www.wissgrid.de) connects the efforts of diverse scientific communities and aims to create sustainable organisational and technical structures for D-Grid at universities and
scientific organisations. As part of the WissGrid project, the SUB leads the efforts on preserving research data, one of WissGrid's three focus areas.

Pending the continued funding of the WissGrid project, the SUB is looking for a research project staff, full-time (39.8 hours/week) starting March 1, 2010 (tariff 13 TV-L) The position is limited to 2 years.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Implementation of preservation services in grid environments employing existing tools (e.g. JHOVE, Planets) * technical integration of repository technologies in grid infrastructure (e.g. iRODS, Fedora)
  • shaping preservation offerings for diverse scientific communities (design, documentation, consultation)
  • communication with national and international partners

Expected are:

  • university degree in a technical field, with experiences in software development projects
  • a background in programming web/grid service
  • knowledge in digital preservation and e-Infrastructure (e.g. iRODS, Fedora)
  • organisational skills and good time management
  • good communication skills when dealing with partners (within the project and beyond) * both, English and German language skills
