job: ESRC/EPSRC Research Associate: The Semantic Web for Education
A Research Associate with background in computer science or an allied area is sought to work on a new 3 year ESRC/EPSRC project funded under the Technology Enhanced Learning initiative of the UK's Teaching and Learning Research Programme. They will be a member of ‘Ensemble: Semantic Technologies for the Enhancement of Case Based Learning', an international and interdisciplinary project led from the Centre for Applied Research in Education Technologies (CARET).
The Research Associate will work as part of a technology team within the project to gather and develop user requirements; implement Semantic web tools and services in support of teaching and learning; identify opportunities for further development of applications, tools and services; and to develop ‘rapid prototypes' as part of a participatory design process. The project will make use of the Semantic Web tools developed by the SIMILE project at MIT (http://simile.mit.edu ) but the successful candidate will also implement and develop metadata schemes, ontologies and thesauri; digital repositories and user applications, interfaces and visualization tools using emerging Semantic Web standards (XML-RDF and N3; OWL; SKOS; SPARQL).
Closing date for applications is noon on Friday 15th August 2008. Shortlisted applicants will be informed by 22nd August and interviews will be held in the following week. The post is available from 1st October 2008.
Starting salary: £25,888 - £30,013 (Limit of tenure applies: 3 years)
