The UCL Centre for Digital Humanities is a university-wide initiative, funded by the Provost’s Strategic Development Fund, to create a unique environment within UCL where the full potential of the arts and humanities to challenge and inspire technology research is realised. It aims to bring together researchers interested in the application of digital technologies to research problems in the arts and humanities and cultural heritage sectors. The Centre Co-ordinator will play a key role in helping to establish this new Centre.
Duties and Responsibilities
i) The management of the day-to-day running of the UCL Centre for Digital Humanities and liaison with the Director over the preparation of strategic planning, the development of activities and production of research outputs including publications and reports.
ii) The updating of a detailed inventory of current research at UCL including profiles of staff research interests (including key projects and publications), details of relevant research projects and a list of current and recent PhDs in the field to be posted on the web.
iii) The maintenance and development of the Centre for Digital Humanities web site.
iv) The co-ordination of marketing activities and the development of a clear and effective promotional strategy (including market research of our main competitors).
v) The organization of seminars, workshops and other events including the strengthening of links with other UCL Research Centres and the UCL Grand Challenges.
vi) The active exploration of funding and research opportunities including liaison with charitable foundations, professional bodies, UK Research Councils, EU sources, industry and other funding sources.
vii) The establishment and development of links with cultural heritage organisations, libraries, archives and private sector organisations for Digital Humanities.
The postholder will carry out such duties as may be determined by the DIS Departmental Administrator, CfDH Director or DIS Director. S/he will be expected to exercise a high degree of responsibility and initiative. As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the postholder. The postholder will carry out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the DIS Departmental Administrator, CfDH Director or DIS Director.
Salary range: Salary will be pro rata on the Grade 6 scale: £25,674 - £30,114 plus £2,795 London Allowance per annum. Starting point appropriate to qualifications and previous experience.
Post: Part-time; 60% FTE (3 days per week)
Hours of work: 21.9 hours per week (excluding lunch hours)
Annual Leave: 16 days per annum plus Bank Holidays and statutory days
Post available: 1 January 2010 to 31 December 2011
