The objective of the first annual Archival Education and Research Institute (AERI) is to foster a global community of archival researchers and educators.
AERI will be hosted on the UCLA campus from July 6-11, 2009.
Students and faculty are encouraged to attend every year; upcoming AERI will by hosted by the University of Michigan (2010) and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (2011).
Planned activities for the Institute will include: Research presentations, mentoring sessions for both doctoral students and faculty, methodology workshops, curriculum development seminars, a poster session, guest speakers, and field trips.
Who: All incoming and continuing doctoral students, recently graduated doctoral students, and faculty undertaking archival research and teaching activities from any U.S. or non-U.S. institution are eligible to attend.
Doctoral Student Scholarships: A limited number of scholarships are available on a competitive basis for doctoral students currently attending a U.S. college or university. The scholarship covers travel costs to and from the Institute and the registration fee.
Cost: Applicants who are accepted into the Institute must pay a registration fee of only US$300, which covers full room and board on the UCLA campus, all planned activities, breakfasts, lunches, and most dinners.
How to Apply: All applicants must submit electronically a two-page c.v., a completed application form located at our website, http://aeri.gseis.ucla.edu/aeri.htm, and an abstract for their contribution to the Institute, which may be either a research presentation or research poster, to Joshua Sternfeld at aeri@gseis.ucla.edu. Applicants for the Scholarship must also submit a full c.v. and personal statement.
