2010 Taiwan International Cultural Design Camp (TICDC 2010) is a summer program designed for Creative Design & Digital Technology undergraduate & post-graduate students. This program will be held in National Yunlin University of Science & Technology (Yuntech) from August 23 through August 27. Yuntech, located in the central area of Taiwan, is renowned for her Design School.
TICDC 2010 has two primary goals. One is to provide essential information relevant to the undergraduate & post-graduate design programs offered in Yuntech. The other goal is to raise participants’ awareness of contemporary issues on cultural design. To attain both goals, TICDC 2010 invites designers, lecturers and students in the field of Design & Technology around the world to attend this design camp and activities.
This week-long program wishes to explore the multiple cultural thinking through a series of international young designers’ cultural exchange, understanding the meaning of Cultural Creative Industry, developing from the existing of the traditional local cultural elements, discussion and conferencing with Design experts.
The specific objectives of TICDC 2010 are as follows:
1. To (re)construct the meaning of Taiwanese culture by (re)visiting the local culture
Local & international students will work in groups to develop a unique fusion of hybrid culture from the international perspective and development.
2. To better inform participants of the current cultural industries in Taiwan
Visiting tours and speeches to the local cultural industries and sites, to better understanding the true meaning and know-how of developing the competiveness of commercializing the Cultural Creative Industries.
3. To present the features of new Taiwanese culture
We would like to start from Taiwan’s local puppet shows as the core elements, and by ways of using the “Narratology” and “Historiography” processes to stress the uniqueness of the new cultural features.
4. To inspire participants to construct their own understanding of design
Inviting designers & experts from varies of design fields to help the participants in developing their own ideas.
5. To help participants apply their own understanding of design to real-world practice
The exploration of the design process teaches students to question, make choices, generate alternatives, work collaboratively and ultimately broaden their understanding of the cultural design meanings and practices around them.
