TAPoR has built a unique human and computing infrastructure for text analysis across Canada by establishing six regional centers to form one national text analysis research network. project: Activated Space: the transformation of internal spaces to become audible and interactive

Activated Space is a proposal to develop and present a series of installations that alter an architectural space to allow its resonant frequencies to become audible and interactive. The proposal combines elements from sculpture, electronic media, music, architecture and acoustics.

project: The digital and computer-based arts in the United Kingdom from their origins to 1980

CACHe is a major research project into the origins and history of British computer arts.
We are based at the School of History of Art, Film and Visual Media at Birkbeck, University of London and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Board. The substantial government funding for our project indicates the level of interest in creating an historical framework for this period. CACHe began its work in 2002.
CACHe is investigating the early days of the computer arts in the UK from their origins in the 1960s to the 1980s, when the first personal computers began to be used. [read more]
project: Representing and enacting knowledge about producing Tibetan text-critical editions

This project aimed to advance our understanding of the processes of the textual criticism and editing of canonical and other Classical Tibetan texts - including the basic task of rendering them readable at all. These mainly ancient materials are undoubtedly of the very highest possible scholarly interest, but without intensive modern scholarship in most instances remain partially or completely incomprehensible because of accumulated errors in copying, as they have been for many centuries. The ICTGuides project is now incorporated within this project (arts-humanities.net).
Two developments gave birth to the ICTGuides database: an increase in the use of ICT in arts and humanities research and an awareness that information on how ICT is used in arts-humanities research is not readily available online. [read more]
project: Latin American Art: an on-line research resource

The aim has been to make the University of Essex Collection of Latin American Art (UECLAA) available as a fully illustrated online catalogue. We began by developing a database that would facilitate management of the collection, integrating the full illustrated catalogue with mailing lists, contact and biographical details for artists, details of copyright agreements and other reports forms (records of donation etc), and information about the current location of a work of art etc. [read more]

The History of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama research project (1999-2004) operated under the aegis of the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama at Oxford. It has in many ways pioneered the developing discipline of Performance Reception. It has done this by documenting as comprehensively as possible all performances worldwide of Greek and Roman drama and their adaptations between the Renaissance and the present, while hand-in-hand with that also exploring ways of interpreting those findings and that material. TV Times is now the only record of many programmes shown on ITV, and particularly of those that no longer exist. TV Times exists in a relatively complete form in only two sources: the British Library and British Film Institute. [read more]
project: British Universities Newsreel Scripts Project

The core aim of the British Universities Newsreel Scripts Project was to digitise and add some 80,000 cinema newsreel documents, together with other enhancements, to the existing British Universities Newsreel Database (BUND). These were recognised of documents of high value to researchers into history and the media, and they had been almost completely inaccessbile to academic researchers. The project integrated these documents with existing newsreel data and related resources to create a conte-rich and powerful online research tool. [read more]
project: The Correspondence of William Henry Fox Talbot

The project has transcribed and published the more than 10,000 letters to and from William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877), best known as the inventor of photography but also an MP, a landowner, an inventor, a scientist, a mathematician and a pioneering scholar of Assyrian cuneiform. The major group of letters was published in 2003. AHRB funding then ended and the University of Glasgow was unable to commit further resources to the project. In 2004, the project website was migrated to DeMontfort University, Leicester. A grant from the British Academy created a remote editing facility. Prof. [read more]
