blog: Job: Systems Analyst - Centre for e-Research, KCL

King’s College London is undertaking the development of a pervasive e-environment to support and enhance all aspects of College business, including research and teaching. As part of this programme King’s has established the Centre for e-Research (CeRch). The Centre will play a leading role in producing the overall architecture for the enhanced research environment, with a view to implementing a coherent, service-based ICT infrastructure that encompasses the programme delivery areas.

CeRch is seeking to appoint a Systems Analyst/Designer, whose broad remit will be:

- to engage with project stakeholders to determine requirements and identify key processes;
- to transform these requirements into high-level technical architectures and detailed system designs, redesigning business processes where necessary;
- to plan and manage the development and testing of systems that implement these designs;
- to carry out a range of associated tasks.

Initially, the post holder will focus on the planned e-research infrastructure for King’s. However, the Analyst’s remit will include other projects and services developed and provided by the Centre, which may include both national and international collaborations.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated and well organised with a degree in a related field and excellent design and planning skills. The ability to work to tight deadlines and the flexibility to deal with a variety of tasks and competing priorities are both essential. The successful candidate will require an understanding of research, teaching and learning processes in higher education, and will be required to liaise closely with domain experts across College on issues specific to their particular disciplines. Excellent inter-personal skills and diplomacy are thus of paramount importance.

Salary will be within the ALC Grade 3 salary scale, currently £35,833 to £41,925 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance of £2,323 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Benefits include an annual season ticket loan scheme, a final salary superannuation scheme and a subsidised gym.

This post will be fixed for two years initially because it is a fixed term funded project.
