blog: The Puzzle Box, Chapter 7
One of the reasons I'm publishing this story in monthly instalments is because I reviewed a Flash-animated comic called "Broken Saints" a couple of years ago (see http://hyperex.co.uk/reviewbrokensaints.php). This comic managed to build up a pretty hefty online cult following, and eventually ended up being published (and selling fairly well) on DVD; and Brooke Burgess, the main driving force behind the project, attributed its success to the fact that it was published in instalments rather than all at once. He said he thought this allowed the audience to build from episode to episode. It also allows for things like cliffhanger endings; it allows you to spread your publicity over a longer period of time; and it allows you to put a bit more presentational effort into each episode. On the other hand, the downside, I find, is that it gives you deadline-fever. No sooner have I got one episode out of the way than I start worrying about the next one, and it's quite difficult to fit other things, like writing reviews, in-between.
