forum: World Archaeological Congress: 3D Archaeology Session

At the upcoming World Archaeological Congress (WAC) to be held in Dublin members of the Discovery Programme, in association with international partners, are hosting of a number of sessions across a range of themes.

WAC-6 Session: Out of the shadows - 3D capture technology in Archaeology

This session, part of the WAC Theme Archaeology in the Digital Age 2.0 is being hosted by Robert Shaw & Anthony Corns of the Discovery Programme, and Paul Bryan of English Heritage.

The aim of our session is to introduce to the WAC community the variety of 3D capture techniques available and show, through a range of papers and speakers, how important these are becoming to an increasing range of archaeological and cultural heritage applications. Beyond introducing the technology the session will consider the major issues which arise from working with 3D data, such as surface modeling and data handling.

We will be drawing on the experience gained from participation in heritage3d.org, an English Heritage project which aimed to address many of the issues in our session.

We would welcome any interested researchers to submit paper proposals for our session Out of the Shadows: 3D capture technology. This should be done via the WAC-6 Paper Proposal Form. Please be aware that the deadline for submitting proposals is February 22, 2008.

Please email us with any proposals
